Dr Perez has special qualifications to help you understand how your skin works and how to make your skin look radiant. He knows the structure and function of the skin better than most doctors.
In our opinion, everybody over the age of 35 needs to be on a skin care program. Over the counter products have a lower concentration of the active ingredients, but there are better than not using anything at all. Professional doctor office products have a higher concentration of the active ingredients, and Dr Perez will be able to recommend a specific product for your skin type.
Retin A, a vitamin A derivate which stimulates the rate of replacement of your skin, and Hydroquinone, a bleaching cream, may be recommended along with the skin products.
A sun block, 30 SPF or higher is of paramount importance in any skin care protocol.
Although the hands of time cannot be completely stopped or reversed, many changes can be minimized with a comprehensive skin care program.
Back To TopChemical peels use a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin; improving and smoothing the texture of the skin. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. The most common chemicals are Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs.
Sometimes Retin A - a prescription medication derived from Vitamin A - is used to pre-treat the skin. This thins out the skin's surface layer, allowing the TCA solution to penetrate more deeply and evenly. If your skin won't tolerate Retin-A pre-treatment, an AHA cream may be used instead. Hydroquinone, a bleaching agent, is sometimes used in conjunction with Retin-A or AHA pre-treatment, especially if you have blotchy skin areas or pigmentation problems. You may have to spend a month or more in the pre-treatment phase before doctor Perez will schedule your actual peel.
Back To TopA laser is used to remove the superficial layers of damaged skin on a controlled depth. These are called ablative lasers. The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines, especially around the mouth and the eyes.
Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. The newer lasers offer the option of providing fractionated ablation of the skin (like lawn aeration) leaving areas of skin undamaged by the laser, consequentially healing faster, 3 to 5 days instead of 7 to 14.
Other laser treatments are performed to stimulate the formation of collagen in the underneath of the skin, leaving the surface of the skin untouched, and this usually needs more than one treatment to be effective. These are call non-ablative lasers.
Many providers are offering skin care and laser treatments. Most of the time problems do not occur, however different people respond differently to treatments and complications sometimes occur. When making a decision you need to remember that Dr Perez, a board certified plastic surgeon, has the proper training and experience to deal with skin problems.
Back To TopDermabrasion is a surgical procedure that sands away the superficial layers of the epidermis. There are two different forms of the procedure:
Regular dermabrassion is performed by Dr. Perez. It is a procedure that requires either local or general anesthesia. It is one of the best treatments for perioral (around the lips) wrinkles or deep acne scars. You will need 10 to 14 days for healing. The treatments soften the sharp edges of surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
Microdermabrassion will be performed by trained and certified members of Dr. Perez’s staff. A device will be use to gently sand away the most superficial layers of your skin, removing dead skin cells and leaving healthy younger skin visible. The procedure feels like getting a deep facial and the use of anesthesia is not needed. You will have some redness for 1 or 2 days. To get the best result you will need to do this procedure weekly for a month and you will need to incorporate this procedure as a part of your skin care protocol.
