Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically improve the appearance of the abdomen.

As a result from this surgery, you will have a scar at the pubic level and a smaller scar around the belly button, the latter one is the most visible. It is important to compare Dr Perez’s results to those of other surgeons. Dr Perez has developed and perfected a technique of umbilicoplasty which will give you the best possible result with a natural look.

The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but have loose abdominal skin +/- fat deposits in the abdomen that won't respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin. If you intend to lose a lot of weight, you should postpone the surgery. Women who plan future pregnancies should wait, most likely pregnancy will destroy the abdominoplasty results. Prior abdominal surgery may preclude you from having an abdominoplasty.

In your initial consultation, Dr Perez will evaluate your health, determine the extent of fat deposits in your abdominal region, and carefully assess your skin tone. Dr Perez will be frank with you, describing your alternatives and the risks and limitations of each.

You will have general anesthesia, so you'll sleep through the operation. Dr Perez will inject long acting local anesthetic in your surgical area; this will help with the immediate post operative discomfort. Pain pumps are available if requested.

Abdominoplasty usually takes two to three hours, depending on the extent of work required.

For the first few days, your abdomen will probably be swollen and you're likely to feel some pain and discomfort which will be controlled by medication. You will limit your activity after surgery, you will not be able to stand straight at first, but you should start walking as soon as possible.

No heavy lifting or exercise for three weeks. Vigorous exercise, however, should be avoided until you can do it comfortably.

Thigh Lift and Brachioplasty (Arm Reduction)

Individuals who have experienced significant weight fluctuations often have redundant skin and fat in the arms and thighs. The excessive tissue in the inner thigh area can be removed with a thigh lift, and excessive tissue in the upper arms can be addressed with a brachioplasty. Incisions for a thigh lift are generally positioned in the groin crease, however patient with large amount of skin will need a scar located in the inner part of the thigh. Incisions for a brachioplasty are positioned in the inner aspect of the arm between the armpit and the elbow. These procedures are very effective at improving the contour of the arm and thigh areas. During a consultation, the pros and cons of these procedures can be discussed in relation to your particular contour.
