May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Is your skin ready for the summer? Remember May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month. Why is this important to know? According to healthfinder.gov Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. What’s the main cause? Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. Avoiding long exposures to the sun and tanning beds are a step in the right direction, in really protecting your skin. If any suspicious mole or irregularity to your skin pops up make sure to get it checked by your dermatologist as soon as you notice the change. During the month of May and all summer long practice good skin care habits and remember to re-apply your sunscreen. Encourage family members and co-workers the importance of sunscreen and don’t forget the kiddos, if the kids are playing sports or just out by the pool staying well hydrated with water and having a good layer of sunscreen is ideal. If your having a hard time finding a sunscreen, feel free to set up a consultation with me and I can guide you to picking the right sunscreen for your skin type.
