Candidates for the Smartlipo® will have the procedure performed in our office in Overland Park, Kansas. This procedure is done under sterile technique using local tumescent anesthesia and an oral sleeping pill. Most patients are awake for the Smartlipo® MPX™ Laser Liposuction procedure and are in a relaxed state as they listen to music. The tumescent anesthesia numbs the treatment areas and most patients report that the procedure is a quite tolerable experience.
Common areas of treatment are the unwanted pockets of exercise and diet resistant fat from the buttock, hips, love handles, saddlebags, thighs, breasts, back of the arms, and neck. Larger volume liposuction (traditional) will be performed in an accredited outpatient surgery center, or in a hospital under general anesthesia.
Who Is a Good Candidate for SmartLipo®?
A typical candidate for Smartlipo® MPX™ Laser Liposuction is one who is of ideal body weight but has stubborn resistant fat pockets that just don’t go away with traditional diet and exercise. Dr. Perez selects candidates who have firm, elastic skin, and those who are physically and psychologically healthy with realistic goals and expectations. Liposuction may improve the appearance of cellulite (dimpling under the skin); however, it is not an effective treatment for this condition.

The SmartLipo® Recovery Process
The length of Smartlipo® MPX™ Laser Liposuction surgery will vary with each patient and the area being treated. However, most procedures usually take between 2 to 4 hours. After surgery, you may experience some fluid drainage from the incisions, which will gradually taper within 24 hours. Pain is controlled with a narcotic pain medication, and a snug compression garment is worn over the treatment area for two weeks for support. Most patients return to work in a matter of days, however, every patient is unique.

What Will I Feel During My Smartlipo® Session?

SmartLipo® Results
Results begin to appear almost immediately, becoming most noticeable when the swelling has stopped at around 6 weeks. The final result will be seen around 6-9 months after surgery.
