Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an intervention that has been used in medicine for several years. Traditionally, PRP has been utilized to speed up the healing process, repairing tendons, ligaments and joint damage, healing diabetic ulcers, and helping to re-grow muscle and bone. This rich extract of your own blood contains fragments of cells that are full of platelets, growth factors, and active proteins. These growth factors are known to stimulate the regenerative capacities of our own cells. When injecting this concentrated supply of plasma into our face, it stimulates the native cells in our body and tells them to regenerate.

PRP harnesses remarkable healing powers, and can be used as a regenerative cosmetic skin and facial treatment for the following:

  • Reducing wrinkles and fine lines
  • Toning and tightening skin
  • Repairing mild volume loss and collagen loss
  • Improving the appearance of dark under eye circles and row’s feet and
  • Softening acne scarring
  • Minimizing rosacea

Prior to your cosmetic PRP treatment, you will meet personally with Dr. Victor Perez in a confidential consultation. During this consultation, Dr. Perez will discuss your goals and concerns, and determine which treatment, or combination of treatments, will best achieve your desired outcome.

What's Involved in PRP Treatment?

A typical PRP procedure usually takes 45 minutes. We start with obtaining a vial of blood from the patient, usually from a vein in the arm.

This blood will be centrifuged at a specific RPM in a medicated tube. This process will separate the PRP from the remainder of the blood, leaving a concentrated platelet count with active proteins and growth factors. Once the plasma portion of the blood is drawn into the test tube, it is mixed with a calcium preservative, forming a gel that will become the injection material.

Since the Platelet Rich Plasma is taken from your own blood, the risk of disease transmission, allergic reaction, or similar complication is eliminated.

After numbing the area being treated with a local anesthetic injection or topical numbing cream, the PRP is injected into the face with a fine needle in a similar fashion as a dermal filler.

This injected volume will slowly disappear within the next couple of weeks, but the cells in those areas will be stimulated to form new collagen and also regenerate the skin in the next 1 to 3 months.

Over the course of weeks or months after your treatment, this process activates collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. By replacing tissue that has been lost or damaged by the aging process, the fibroblasts help skin look healthy, rejuvenated, and refreshed.

Because of the need of time to see an improvement in the injected areas, we recommend the injection of a hyaluronic acid dermal filler at the same time.

To obtain a better stimulus, we recommended a second injection of PRP four to six weeks after the first.

This procedure is minimally invasive. However, its downtime is somewhat in between treatment with traditional fillers and the fat grafting procedure.

As with any plastic surgical procedure, we recommend the patient to be off any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen for at least seven days before receiving any injections. This will limit the amount of bruising and risks for hematomas.

The importance of seeing a proper training provider for this kind of procedure assures you the best possible results.

There are many injectors without the proper training and the resources to solve any possible side effects of this type of procedures.  When you look for a provider you need to look for the board certification credentials including membership to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

SkinPen FDA Cleared Microneedling

Mechanical micro-needling is an innovative cosmetic procedure designed to improve your skin’s texture and tone by diminishing the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, and other aesthetic imperfections. SkinPen is the first microneedling device in the world that is cleared by the FDA and clinically shown to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up. During the procedure, micro-injuries are created in the skin with tiny needles. SkinPen creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. The result: effective remodeling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

This process also creates micro-channels which can be used with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) to give you a step up to your micro-needling treatment.

Patient Testimonial

"He put me at ease right away and I knew I had a great doctor! After the surgery I texted him with a question and he responded right away to me; he wasn’t done being my doctor when the surgery was over. So, so pleased with the results although it hasn’t even been 2 months!"

How is Micro-Needling performed?

When you come in for your treatment we will apply numbing cream (30 mins). A sterile needle-tip containing 14 tiny micro-needles is secured to the SkinPen micropen. SkinPen’s patent-pending-and single-use-sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. The device is then pressed gently against the treatment area and passed over the skin in a designated pattern producing thousands of microchannels.

Does Microneedling hurt?

Micro-needling may feel similar to the sensation of light sandpaper moving across your skin. Although certain areas may feel more comfortable than others, most patients find the treatment to be easily tolerable and worth any temporary discomfort.

What’s the downtime?

You will likely notice skin redness immediately following treatment. Your specific healing time will depend on the micro-needling setting used and the number of overlapping passes. Patients typically experience redness for up to two to four days. Some patients report healing in only 24 hours.

What should I avoid before doing a micro-needling treatment?

Discontinue using Auto-Immune therapies, Retin-A 24 hours before treatment. Patient with facial outbreaks such as herpes must take medication 48 hours after micro-needling treatment. Also avoiding the sun pre- and post-treatment is very important.

Are results immediate?

You will likely notice “glow” to your skin immediately after treatment. During the days and weeks following your procedure, you will see visible changes to your skin. Your results will continue to improve over the next 6 months following treatment as collagen production continues. Results can be seen in as few as three treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Depends on the skin condition the patient has and what they want to achieve with their micro-needling treatments. Some patients will require a single treatment, for a smoother, refresh skin. However, patients with deep wrinkles or acne scars are recommended to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.
