Breast augmentation can be a big decision for many of our patients, so take the time to see what appeals to you.
Saline Implants
Saline implants make up almost half of the implants out there in the world today. They are a popular choice as a breast augmentation implant and for good reason. They typically involve less scarring and are more manipulated for revision procedures if the results don’t come out or stay exactly as you’d like them . With that being said, it's important to note that with these implants you are getting a much more pronounced and bold-looking augmentation to your breasts. While they can look amazing, if you are set on finding an implant that looks as natural as possible, then this choice may not be the one for you.
However, an additional benefit is the peace of mind you’ll have should anything happen to your implant. If this type of implant is punctured or damaged, it will have to be replaced, but the saline solution inside the implant can be safely absorbed by your body without worry.
Silicone Implants
These implants fall under the benefit of being the most realistic and natural-looking implants available. Rather than a saline solution filling the implant, a silicone gel helps maintain the form and look of your breasts more than a saline implant. These are a close contender in popularity to saline implants and have been on the rise ever since they have been offered. The slight drawback with this type of implant is what could happen in the case of an implant failure or puncture. The silicone gel is 100% body-safe so there is no danger or concern there, but it can be hard to realize when this happens. Where the body would absorb saline, silicone gel will simply sit there. So you could have a slight puncture and never realize, or you may have a more severe puncture and your breasts may start to look uneven. The gel can’t go anywhere besides somewhere else in your breasts, which can cause some discomfort. For this reason, it's important to monitor yourself after receiving these implants.
“Gummy Bear” Implants
These implants are given their name due to their firm and squishy texture, much like gummy bears. They are solid silicone implants that cannot deflate. At most, they could shift slightly. They can be ruptured, but typically retain their shape no matter what. In return for that, you get a mixture of prominent breasts while still boasting a more natural look and feel. However, it does come with a typically higher price point than the others due to this. And if you have a fully ruptured implant of this type, there can be some medical complications if not looked after promptly.
