In the one to two months leading up to your appointment, avoiding direct and prolonged sun exposure will ensure a beautiful result. If the treatment area is tanned, it is more difficult for the laser to achieve an even, consistent result. Untanned skin yields the best results. Unless you've been vacationing in tropical regions, your skin has likely been protected from sun exposure over the cold winter. If you are getting this treatment soon, be sure to wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat for at least a month before your appointment.
After laser skin resurfacing, continue to protect the treatment area from direct and prolonged sun exposure. Sometimes it is easier to do so in the spring, when we get rainy, cloudy days. Once sunny, warm summer days roll around, your skin will be adequately healed and you can be a little less cautious about leaving the house without your hat or sunblock – that being said, continue to protect your skin as a lifelong habit. It will preserve your results, prevent wrinkles and prevent skin cancer.
