Many people who are dissatisfied with their noses feel a renewed sense of self-confidence after getting this face-flattering procedure.

To learn more, please call the Overland Park practice of Dr. Victor Perez at 913-685-1108. We've also provided a few answers to some of the most common questions about rhinoplasty below.

1. Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Nose surgery is highly versatile and customizable to the things you would like to change. Some of the most common reasons people seek rhinoplasty are:

  • Large nose width or overall size
  • Bulbous nose tip
  • Drooping  or upturned nose tip
  • Bump in the nose bridge
  • Asymmetrical or crooked bridge
  • Asymmetrical nostrils
  • Overly large nostrils

This list isn't exhaustive. Consult our experienced plastic surgeon to find out if it's right for you.

2. How is Nose Surgery Performed?

Because of Dr. Perez's years of experience with rhinoplasty, he can customize surgical steps to your nose and the look you want. In general, rhinoplasty is performed as an "open" or "closed" procedure. In the open method, incisions are made inside and outside of the nose. They will be well-concealed and not apparent after you heal. This method is often recommended by Dr. Perez because it optimizes his ability to make changes to the tissues of your nose.

Incisions are confined to the interior of your nose in the closed method. While it tends to cause less swelling and bruising, and patients like the idea of having scars only on the inside of the nose, it tends to limit what can be done. It provides less access to the tissues and structures of the nose.

Rely on Dr. Perez to provide clear, honest information about which technique will work best for you. Even in the open technique, the exterior incisions are well-hidden. An incision is made across the thin strip of tissue separating your nostrils, and people won't notice it once it heals.

3. How Long is the Recovery?

After rhinoplasty, you will experience bruising, swelling and some nasal bleeding. The bleeding should dissipate within 24 hours. Ice your nose and sleep with your head elevated to reduce bruising and swelling.

Technically, you could return to work after a few days. Most people prefer to wait a week or longer, so that they can have the splints removed first. Splints are usually removed at the first follow-up appointment.

The majority of swelling will be gone after two to three weeks, at which point your final results should be visible. Please see our nose surgery before & after gallery to see some of Dr. Perez's patients.

4. Are the Results Permanent?

Rhinoplasty results are permanent, so you'll be able to enjoy your improved nose shape for a lifetime.

Your plastic surgeon should be experienced in performing rhinoplasty. It should be a normal part of what they do. Dr. Perez has performed numerous rhinoplasties over his decades in practice.
